Big Island police on Friday charged a 40-year-old Volcano woman in connection with a fatal crash Wednesday in Hilo.

Alison E. Taylor was charged with negligent homicide, accident involving death or serious injury, failure to provide information or render aid, driving with a suspended license and inattention to driving, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Her bail was set at $8,500.

Taylor was driving a southbound 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Kinoole Street when she reportedly struck a 20-year-old Hilo man riding a bicycle in the same direction, according to police. The woman reportedly then fled the scene, traveling south on Kinoole Street before an off-duty police officer stopped her at Palai Street, according to police.

The bicycle rider died later Wednesday at Hilo Medical Center.
